Fall down seven times, get up eight…
My new little friend here is a japanese Daruma doll:
Daruma is closely associated with a beloved Japanese proverb, Nana korobi yaoki, which states, “Fall down seven times, get up eight”. The Daruma doll’s rounded shape allows it to return to its original position even if knocked over, representing such persistence. The recipient of the doll fills in one eye upon setting a goal, then the other upon fulfilling it. In this way, every time they see the one-eyed Daruma, they recall the goal. One explanation how this custom started says that in order to motivate Daruma-san to grant your wish, you promise to give him full sight once the goal is accomplished.
Persistence, getting back up, and not giving up on your goals- sounds good to me! I have coloured in one eye and will let you know when I colour in the second!
